For whom

You are interested in how digital games are designed and developed from an idea to a finished product. You may have experience in visual arts, programming or storytelling. Interaction skills, teamwork and English language skills are important in the industry.

What we expect from you:

  • Prior experience or interest in some area of game production (e.g. visual arts, programming, storytelling)
  • Finnish (B1) and good English skills
  • Motivation to learn and work in a team

Programme structure

  • Working in a game production (30 competence points)
  • Implementing 2D graphics (15 competence points)
  • 3D modelling for the media industry (15 competence points)
  • Making a game product (30 competence points)

Vocational Qualification in Media and Visual Expression, ePerusteet

Study costs

  • laptop deposit (€300), which is returned upon completion of studies
  • external hard drive for backing up files

Are you interested in how digital games are designed, created and developed from an idea into a finished product?

Game development combines art, technology and storytelling. During the programme, you will learn all stages of game production, from concept and game design to graphics, animation and programming.

Previous experience in game production is not required, but it is beneficial to have an interest or background in areas such as drawing, visual arts, programming or storytelling.

During your studies, you will explore topics such as:

  • 2D and 3D graphics and animation
  • Game design and programming
  • Project work and teamwork

The programme emphasises hands-on learning. It includes practical exercises and projects where you will create complete games as part of a team. You will have the opportunity to work in different roles, develop your skills both independently and collaboratively, and build a portfolio for job applications or further studies.

During the programme, you will practice:

  • Developing games from concept to release
  • Various stages of game production: design, graphics, programming and testing
  • Collaboration, problem-solving

Applying for the programme

There is a continuous application process for the programme. The studies will begin in January 2026 and last 1–1.5 years. The content and progression of studies will be tailored to your personal competence development plan. Applicants will be invited to an interview in November-December 2025. Admission decisions will be announced no later than December 2025.
